Arkansas punk-rocker turned fashion icon Beth Ditto has launched her first ever clothing line for plus-size women. Fans of the former Gossip frontwoman has been waiting for it since it was first announced on December 15, 2015, and finally, last week on February 15, 2016, they finally got to see it with their own eyes and hold it in their hands.
Known for her uninhibited spirit and overall exuberant, spunky personality, Beth Ditto is not one to play it safe–and you can bet it’s going to show in her clothes, too.
Brought into fruition in genius collaboration with close friend Jean Paul Gaultier, the limited edition tee collection features well-tailored pencil skirts, ultra-soft leggings, and vintage-detailed dresses made out of silk and rayon. If you can’t get enough denim, Beth’s line adds more rock and roll to her line with vintage-sourced denim jackets, then carefully crafted with head-turning hand-embroidered details.
The New York-made plus size fashion line carries US sizes from 14 to 28 (UK sizes 18-32), with each piece guaranteed to exemplify the brand’s commitment to high quality and craft. Beth would know very well, too, what makes good fashion, having had her own fair share of exposure in the industry, thanks to her print campaign and catwalk experiences, like her previous stint for Marc Jacobs.
Her keen eye and knowledge for fashion also stems from her genuine interest in bringing about an accessible, fashionable line for plus size women that will echo her belief that beauty must be celebrated at any size. More than that, though, she wants to make a mark significant enough to outlast otherwise flimsy fads.
Says Beth, herself: “I wanted to make pieces to last years. Beyond trends, beyond chain stores. I wanted to create something all on its own, something just for us, made with love and consideration. Made ethically in the USA as a small company with no big corporate input. Uncompromising, unapologetic, and timeless. Go-to pieces designed to last. A movement by us, for us.”
The eleven-piece collection is now available on BethDitto.com and in Selfridges for the UK market.
