Another one bites the dust.
In a year shaped by departures and adding to the string of magazines folding, 33-year old DETAILS magazine was announced to close. This came as no surprise to the industry as it’s been rumoured that DETAILS was next in line to be axed. DETAILS was experiencing newsstand sales decline 30.1 percent from last year, according to the Alliance for Audited Media.
There’s been a series of changes at Condé, with its CEO Bob Sauerberg quickly reshaping the media giant. These past few weeks we’ve seen a handful of layoffs from GQ, the departure of Teen Vogue publisher Jason Wagenheim and a major shake-up at Allure with Linda Wells exiting after 24 years as editor in chief replaced by Nylon’s Michelle Lee.
Sauerberg, who said the last print issue of Details would be its December/January 2016 issue. Details.com will continue to operate as the company transitions to GQStyle.com. The leaner organization is said to focus on building on the success of GQ and expand their business through their GQ Style franchise.
We’re sad to see DETAILS go but c’est la vie; we just hope that GQ will shape up to be THE men’s magazine authority.
