As New York Men’s Week is in full swing, we’d like to introduce a Ukrainian male model currently turning heads in Asia. He’s mutli-hyphenated proving that models can be more than just pretty faces. Arthur is a rare combination of beauty, brains, talent and charm.
We caught up with him and provided some snippets from Arthur’s instagram account so you can follow him if you want to get more updates about him.
ACE: How did your modelling career begin?
Arthur: I think I can say I was born into it. I started modeling when I was only 6 years old. My parents are into the modeling business and are owners of one of Ukraine’s biggest modeling agencies (Image Center Model Management.) I had to put it on hold when I was in my teens as I wanted to focus all my effort into my education. I want to be an interior designer and an architect. I went back to modeling when I was 18 and after graduation I started travelling to model in different countries.
ACE: What do you think is your best (physical) asset?
Arthur: It’s a difficult question to answer because I’m not comfortable talking about myself that way. But based on what other people tell me, they say that I have interesting eyes. Maybe because the colors change depending on my mood and environment
ACE: What’s a typical day for you (as a model)?
Arthur: I usually I start my day with a healthy breakfast (which is always oatmeal with fruits) and coffee with cinnamon. Then most of the time I go to the gym and attendi some sport classes or do weights. After that I run around the city for castings, projects or meetings and then I try to find some time to do my art (like paintings, drawings, photography or designing some projects). At the end of the day I do jog in a park or just hangout with my friends for coffee or do some activities like surfing, wake boarding, some other kinds of sport or watch movies.
ACE: What do you think is the biggest misconception of people about models?
Arthur: The biggest misconception of people about models is that some people thinks that modeling is just for fun and that it’s not real work, but industry people know that in fact this is actually not an easy work at all. I’m not saying it’s the hardest work ever, but still not everyone can handle it and not every model have a passion for it. So in my opinion, modeling is a decent work for a period of time and it’s a great opportunity to experience different cultures, meet new people, and it builds character.
ACE: Can you share with us your best modelling experience so far?
Arthur: I can enumerate a lot of great experiences but for me one of the clear standouts was a Fashion Show for Francis Libiran (Filipino Couturier) – TRESemmé Runway Ready Show, it had an amazing show concept, lighting, music and they hired the best models, stylists and the whole production was just awesome. Whenever I watch the video from the show I get goosebumps.
ACE: What’s your worst modelling experience?
Arthur: I wouldn’t call it worst, but it was the most difficult so far. It was my first week in Shanghai and I had to shoot 150 outfits for the catalogue (which is normal for China). Throughout the process I was thinking more about how many more items to go rather than my poses and facial expression. But I’m glad I had that experience, it taught me to change clothes much faster.
ACE: What’s your advice to those who are pursuing to be a model?
Arthur: For those who wants to venture into modeling I suggest that they should always make steps to a better future and look at any obstacle as a challenge. From experience it’s also very important to motivate yourself.
ACE: What are your plans 5 (five) years from now?
Arthur: I’m currently focusing on modeling and photography full time, but I’m also exploring and honing my skills both as a DJ and as an artist, but in 5 years or sooner I want to add “Interior Designer” to this list.
ACE: Among the places you lived and worked in, what is your favourite city so far?
Arthur: My favorite cities are New York, Seoul and Manila. I could call these cities as a second home.
ACE: What other city do you want to work and live in as a model?
Arthur: I want to try Tokyo and London, because I’ve heard a lot of great things about the two cities and so I’m excited to go there.
ACE: What’s the greatest lesson you’ve learned from modelling?
Arthur: From modeling I’ve learned that you can meet amazing and talented people anytime and anywhere and you should always be open for that, because it’s such a great feeling that you can share your experience with someone from other parts of the world.
ACE: What’s your dream project as a model?
Arthur: I would love to do a campaign for Gucci and Burberry one day.
