Spotlight: Lucky Blue Smith

The latest storm that takes over the modelling world is none other than 16-year-old (yes, 16), Lucky Blue.

Mr. Blue grew up in a small town in Utah where he was discovered at the age of 10. He got scouted when his older sister, Pyper, was discovered.

Thanks to Instagram, Mr. Blue has amassed a cult-like following so rare to be seen in a male model so new to the game, unlike David Gandy. His account has boasted more than 285,000 followers, mostly teenage girls. He has booked several high-profile fashion shows including Tom Ford, Dunhill, Bottega Venetta and Fendi.

In an interview with Business of Fashion, Mr. Blue admitted that growing up, he wasn’t well-acquainted with fashion designers, “Before I came to Italy, I’d never heard of most of these designers,” he says. The same is true of much of his audience. “I think I’d heard of Fendi and Gucci and that’s it. What’s that one I did? Botte… Venet or something? And Roberto Cavalli, I didn’t know either.”

Mr. Blue has given us a vibe of classic American beauty like young Brad Pitt or River Phoenix. So far, we have been quite impressed with the portfolio that this young model has presented but we reserve our judgments on longevity as fashion industry is known to be quite fickle.

Look, where are Agyness Deyn and River Viiperi now? Both were once hailed as the next big things in fashion.
