If you’re an Yves Saint Laurent fan and have been following the rumours that not only one, but two films are set to hit the silver screen this year then you’ll be happy to know that this is not only rumour but now a fact!
The two films which focus on the life of the legendary designer are anywhere but the same so what makes one different from the other?
The first, “Yves Saint Laurent,” was officially approved by Saint Laurent’s long-time business partner and lover, Pierre Bergé and given access to the YSL archives. It was released last month.
Now for the second film. Simply called “Saint Laurent,” has hit the web and is entirely in French. Offering no subtitles, it’s clear that this one takes a more dramatic turn, with allusions to the designer’s troubled relationship with Bergé and his lifelong battle with substance abuse. Check out the unapproved trailer below.
This film however has a more star-powered cast: César-award winner Gaspard Ulliel plays the designer; “Blue Is the Warmest Colour” star (and Prada campaign model) Lea Seydoux plays muse Loulou de la Falaise; and model Ayemeline Valade who has walked for Lanvin, Balmain and Prada amongst other brands, plays model Betty Catroux.
If you haven’t seen the first official trailer, check it out below.
So what say you? We think that despite it being named as unofficial, it looks like it could be a bit more exciting. Everyone likes a but of drama we say.
